Seapower Leadership Association

A major priority of the A&FA every year is to support the great work of the Seapower Leadership Association (SLA) in development of our Midshipmen. We work with the NROTC Unit staff and Midshipmen Battalion to identify priorities for funding. These are things that the US Navy or Marine Corps do not fund as a part of the NROTC program. We feel strongly that these activities help produce excellent future Navy and Marine officers. This coming year, our goal is to raise $10,000.00 in funds to support the following activities with proposed expenditures  for the MU NROTC Midshipmen Battalion:
  • Leadership Conferences (e.g. US Naval Academy, George Washington U, University of Notre Dame)
  • Midwest ROTC Basketball Tournament at University of Notre Dame
  • A Foreign Affairs Conference at USNA & Women in Naval Careers Symposium
  • USMC Bulldog prep & EOD/SEAL Prep
  • Drill Meet Competitions 
  • Unfunded “Required” Items (Unit Polo’s, cold weather gloves, shoe shine kits, swim goggles)

The Seapower Leadership Association is a tax-exempt foundation under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donors may deduct contributions as provided in Section 170 of the Code.   All donations to 501(c)(3) organizations are tax-deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law.  No goods or services were provided in exchange for this donation. The amount listed in your acknowledgement receipt we send is your potential tax deductible amount.  As with any donation, you should consult with your personal income tax adviser about your particular tax situation.

Don't forget, if you are over 70 1/2 years of age with an IRA, you can make a donation by using funds from your Required Minimum Distribution. Your IRA custodian is familiar with this option and can make this contribution for you. It must be sent directly from them. Consult your tax advisor for advice.

SLA donations in excess of this year's goal will help the MU NROTC Unit increase the number of high-performing midshipmen who are afforded the opportunity to attend leadership conferences.
