Marquette NROTC Alumni and Friends

Marquette was the twelfth university to be authorized for a Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps. Its graduates have served in World War II and every conflict since that time. Once their active duty days are over, the graduates embrace civilian life and continue contributing to society. Their professions vary, but their dedication and leadership skills are apparent. Our alumni and friends organization is dedicated to continuing the bond between graduates by helping one another and our communities.

The Alumni and Friends Association (A&FA) began in 1987. A major impetus in its formation was the preparation to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the NROTC unit at Marquette University. Most of the active members in the nineties came from an area within about one hundred miles of the unit. With alumni spread across the nation and around the world getting potential members involved in the association presented a major challenge. Shortly into the new millennium the organization became inactive.

Social media, email, teleconferencing and the whole array of modern communications exploded onto the scene. The time was right for a new genesis which began in the fall of 2009. Today we actively seek new ways to serve our alumni—socially, professionally and personally. We value our friends in that pursuit.

Our association is legally registered as a nonprofit 501(c)(19) with the IRS (federal) and state (Wisconsin). We also actively support the Seapower Library Association (SLA) which provides support and guidance to current NROTC students. By doing so we hope to help produce excellent future Navy and Marine officers. SLA is also legally registered nonprofit.

Marquette NROTC A&FA President’s Welcome

Welcome Aboard!

Since its founding in 1940, Marquette University’s Naval ROTC has had a proud tradition of educating future Marine Corps and Navy officers.  Though MU NROTC graduates form the core of our membership, the Marquette NROTC Alumni and Friends Association (A&FA) fully embraces as members:

  • MU Alums who were commissioned through the NROTC program;
  • MU Alums who served in the Navy and Marine Corps via other accession programs;
  • Current and past Staff members of the MU NROTC Unit;
  • The many friends and family of the NROTC Unit who provide their steadfast support.

The Marquette NROTC Alumni & Friends Association is a nonprofit membership organization focused on engaging alums and friends, promoting our charitable entity - the Seapower Library Association, providing a means for alums to share in the life of the NROTC Unit in a mutually rewarding relationship, and working closely with the MU NROTC Unit’s Commanding Officer and staff members to have an enduring role and provide sustained support for the unit.

Through your outstanding support, this past academic year the Seapower Library Association (SLA) has provided over $7000.00 in direct, tangible support to the Midshipmen Battalion.  In addition to helping fund some things that we used to enjoy as Midshipmen – but the Navy is no longer able to provide – your support is especially making a substantial difference during these challenging times with the Defense budget.  SLA support has enabled midshipmen to attend Leadership Conferences, the unit to host a biennial Navy Nurse Student Symposium with wide attendance from across the country, participate in ROTC Competitions, and pursue many other activities that significantly broaden their experience.

I am honored to play a role with our A&FA.  In my case – and maybe yours – the Navy afforded me an opportunity to attend a first class university, and to prepare for a rewarding career with unsurpassed experiences.  My Navy service experience has made an immeasurable impact on my life, and I want to give back.  I invite you to join your A&FA and take an active role in sustaining the experience that gave us a great start in our early days.

Best Regards,
